Mondays are typically a day that people dread. How many people do you know that say “Happy Monday!” (well, besides me)? Very few! Well, we want to help you have a positive day, week, month, year, life … So every Monday we have a series called ME: Motivation Encouragement. This is one way we can help you start your Monday off on the right foot. Question: Do you make life suck?
We can be a very bad friend to our self sometimes. Always negative, down in the dumps, nothing ever goes right for us, nothing is ever going to change, never being happy for what we have, always looking for something to satisfy us instead of just being content. "Oh boy, I have to run- again," "why did I give up TV for lent?" "why can't they drive faster?" ... these are all examples of how we live our life. Yes, we make life suck. (Side note: We somehow forget that Jesus didn't have TV, but yet we are going to gripe about it because someone will throw us a pity party and we will get sympathy for what we are giving up. Poor, poor us.)
Often times the circumstances around us have very little to do with how we approach and view life. It is our reaction to our circumstances that say a lot whole about how we view life.
One of my favorite yoga teachers, Scott, was talking about this very topic as we were doing some fancy, tough-as-nails-pose. As I was in this
awkward awesome pose, with sweat pouring from every fiber in my body like a dripping faucet, I was pondering this statement. Was I making a simple pose suck or being grateful that I have a body that can move and feel alive? In that moment, I realized that we can make life suck. We can either accept what we are going through with a positive or negative perspective and we have the ability to make the switch. It doesn't mean a positive outlook will make the hard, painful things go away or the trauma easier to deal with, it just means that we know our circumstances don't have to control us.
So my friend, are you making life suck? Are you more consumed by how bad everything is in your life or are you grateful for the things that you do have? Once you change your perspective, life might not suck.
It's a Happy Monday. Change your perspective and stop making life suck!
peace, sweat, love: life
